Collagen Production, Skin and Wrinkles
415nm Research
Blue light has been shown to help with acne, however it should be used in moderation because it also prematurely ages skin. For this reason our Hero Series red light therapy masks have a blue light option which is not on by default, so you can use it only when you want to.
- 415 nm Blue and 830 nm NIR LED Combination for Moderate Acne
A trial on patients with moderate acne vulgaris using combined 415 nm blue and 830 nm near-infrared LED therapy showed notable reductions in acne lesions, inflammation, and scarring, improving skin health safely as a non-invasive option.
- 415 nm Blue LED and Mixed Blue/Red Light for Acne Treatment
In a study with 107 patients with mild to moderate acne, treatments twice a week for 15 minutes using 415 nm blue LED light alone reduced inflammatory lesions by 25% after 5 weeks, while combined blue and 660 nm red light cut them by 76% over 12 weeks, making skin clearer with fewer pimples and no side effects.
- Self-Applied 415 nm Blue LED Therapy for Mild-to-Moderate Acne
Thirty adults with mild-to-moderate acne used a handheld blue LED device at 415 nm twice daily for 4 weeks, resulting in a significant 50% drop in acne spots by week 8, with continued improvement up to 12 weeks, offering an easy, at-home way to clear skin without irritation.
- 415 nm Blue LED with Red Light for Inflammatory Acne
Reviewing multiple studies, combining 415 nm blue LED light (which kills acne-causing bacteria) with red light effectively reduced inflammatory acne pimples by targeting bacteria and soothing skin, leading to clearer complexions with minimal treatments.
HeroMask Elite and Core have an optional 415nm blue light setting
590nm Research
- 590 nm Yellow/Orange LED Attenuates Oxidative Stress and Photoaging
In lab tests on human skin cells exposed to UV light (which causes aging), treatment with 590 nm yellow/orange LED light reduced harmful reactive molecules, lowered inflammation, and protected cells, suggesting it can help prevent wrinkles and maintain healthier, more youthful skin.
- 590 nm Amber Light Reduces Periorbital Wrinkles
A comprehensive review found that 590 nm amber LED light, similar to red light, effectively decreased wrinkles around the eyes in treatments for skin rejuvenation, likely by stimulating collagen production and improving skin texture safely.
- 592 nm Yellow LED Improves Wrinkles in Photoaged Skin
In a clinical study on Korean patients with sun-damaged skin, sessions with 592 nm yellow LED light (practical overlap with 590nm) led to visible improvements in fine wrinkles as seen in before-and-after photos, with no adverse reactions, enhancing overall skin health.
HeroMask Elite and Core use 590nm yellow/amber light
630nm Research
- 630 nm LED mask reduces crow's-feet depth by 38% and raises dermal density by 48% (630 nm)
Twenty adults aged 45-70 (15 women, 5 men) used a 630 nm red LED mask for 12 minutes twice a week for three months. Crow's-feet wrinkle depth fell by 38.3%, ultrasound dermal density rose 47.7%, and roughness, pore size and sebum all decreased; effects persisted a month after stopping. It was a small, uncontrolled study with a branded device.
- Home 630 nm + 850 nm LED mask improves crow's feet in a sham-controlled trial (630 nm)
In a multi-centre, randomised, double-blind trial, 59 adults aged 30-65 used a mask emitting 630 nm red and 850 nm near-infrared light for 9 minutes, five days a week, for 12 weeks. Blinded raters judged crow's feet improved in 86.2% of the active group versus 16.7% of the sham group, with only minor side effects. Collagen was not measured directly.
- Home 630 nm + 850 nm LED neck device improves neck wrinkles in 77% of users (630 nm)
Seventy adults were randomised to a neck device emitting 630 nm and 850 nm light or a sham device for 9 minutes a day, five days a week, for 12 weeks. Investigators graded neck wrinkles as improved in 77.1% of the treatment group versus 8.6% of controls, with no thyroid changes on ultrasound. Assessment was visual only; elasticity and collagen were not measured.
- 630 nm LED Protects Skin Collagen from UV Damage
In hairless mice exposed to UV radiation, pretreatment with 630 nm red LED light preserved collagen fiber density and arrangement, reduced skin thickening and inflammation, and enhanced overall skin barrier health, suggesting benefits for anti-aging and wrinkle prevention.
Note: There is a practical overlap between 630nm and 633nm red light, however we have chosen 633nm for the HeroMask Elite because it is used more in LED face mask skin health research.
