  • 630-690 nm Red (plus Near-Infrared) LED Helmet Improves Hair Density and Scalp Condition

Fifty adults with hair loss wore a helmet emitting 630-690 nm red light together with 820-880 nm and 910-970 nm near-infrared light for 20 minutes daily for 24 weeks. Hair density and hair thickness increased significantly, vertex sebum decreased, and 73% of the 49 who finished were rated as improved - though this was a single-group study with no sham comparison.

  • Review: How Red Light May Stimulate Hair Regrowth in Pattern Hair Loss

A 2021 review concludes that low-level light therapy can accelerate hair growth in people with androgenetic alopecia, and summarises the likely mechanism: light absorbed by chromophores in the follicle triggers nitric oxide release and modulates reactive oxygen species, boosting cell energy and follicle activity.

  • 650 nm Red LED Light Promotes Hair Growth in Lab Model

In lab tests on human hair follicles from people with hair loss, treating with 650 nm red LED light for 5 minutes every other day led to longer hair shafts, more growing follicles (45% stayed in growth phase vs 33% in controls), and higher cell activity, potentially helping treat baldness by activating anti-inflammatory and energy-boosting genes.

660nm Research

  • 625 and 660 nm LED Cap Trial in Androgenetic Alopecia

A multicentre, double-blind randomised trial (160 people, 10 minutes daily) compared three LED caps - red (625 and 660 nm), blue (425 nm) and red-plus-blue - with a sham cap. No single cap reached statistical significance on its own at 16 weeks, but pooled together the three active caps gave 28.5 more hairs per cm² than sham (p = 0.033) and were well tolerated.

  • 660 nm LED Reduces DHT for Hair Loss Treatment

Lab studies showed that 620 and 660 nm LED light stimulates nitric oxide and reactive oxygen species, which inhibit the production of DHT (a hormone causing hair loss), providing a mechanism for how red light therapy promotes hair regrowth in androgenetic alopecia.

HeroSeries panels, HeroBelt and HeroHat LED use 660nm red light

Did you know most hair growth studies focus on red light in the 630-660 nm range - not near-infrared? That’s why we highlight red wavelengths on this page. Since many hair growth studies use a mix of LEDs and lasers, we offer both the HeroHat LED and HeroHat Laser - plus a discount when you bundle them together.
